Qld legislates to allow job security clauses to be over-ridden

The government has tacitly admitted that its directive overriding EBA job security provisions would not stand up in court.

Shortly after 4 pm yesterday, the Attorney-General announced he would amend the Public Service and Other Legislation Amendment Bill.  “[A]mendments will … be moved to legislate the government’s election commitment to have a Public Service that our state can afford,” he said.

Then, last night, the parliament passed the amendments which effectively enshrined the directive in legislation.

Here is the bill, explanatory notes, and hansard record of the parliamentary debates.
