The government has tacitly admitted that its directive overriding EBA job security provisions would not stand up in court.
Shortly after 4 pm yesterday, the Attorney-General announced he would amend the Public Service and Other Legislation Amendment Bill. “[A]mendments will … be moved to legislate the government’s election commitment to have a Public Service that our state can afford,” he said.
Then, last night, the parliament passed the amendments which effectively enshrined the directive in legislation.
